20 years plumbing, never taken a tip once. If I can walk them through it I’ll do it no charge. Word of mouth is the best way to advertise and I never take money for something that is something easy to

I’d get off my lazy ass and go out. The breaker didn’t pop by itself for no reason. Now you have a liability if there’s another failure.

Bigj52 :
Well, first of all the breaker is not gonna trip for no reason so there’s probably a problem with the element or something on the tank anyway so why would you not make a service call?

The honest trustworthy person would give them the answer. Sure enough guess whose name i’m giving to all my friends and family. Mechanic guy same. Always had someone i could TRUST. Same mechanic same plumber same handy man. same electrician. same furnace guy. If i can’t trust you you cost me money but if i can and you always deliver all my connections have your name too. think about that! 🥰

Yes. Walk them through. If it's a quick simple fix, they'll love you forever next time when more needs done. I do it all the time. Even FaceTime 👍🏽. And if they have any class, they'll Venmo you $20 or something for the 5 mins

Minimum charge. Is that the kind of work you want? If you’re doing that you can’t respond to a more profitable trip,

I will always ask if they have tried anything to fix the problem. It’s just like calling technical support and them having you reset your device.

Electrician here…. I do the exact same thing. I always try and troubleshoot over the phone first. I’d appreciate the same courtesy if I called another pro for something. And guess what… they would be my first call from then on.

Not a plumber, but chances are that little phone call answer will probably get you more clients. Anyone who’s honest, trustworthy, reliable, is who I recommend to friends. & this would make me recommend & be a returning customer
