@thejamiebrindle: The fastest way to lose a client? Charge a “reasonable” price. Reasonable doesn’t signal value. It signals risk. When you underprice, clients don’t think, “What a deal.” They think, “This person isn’t the expert.” Here’s the truth: clients don’t buy your time. They buy certainty. And certainty has a price. So how do you set it? Take the income you want this year. Divide it by the number of projects you can realistically handle. Add what it would cost to hire someone else to deliver. That’s your baseline. Work from there. Freelancers don’t get ghosted because they charge too much. They get ghosted because they don’t look like the safest bet. P.S. Follow me for more practical steps to build a strong, sustainable freelance business.

lol this worked 5 years ago. Yes, price the client and not the product. Blair Enns and Chris Do, they told us to charge more. Reality is AI is here and our “value” isn’t the same right now.

Or just explain your pricing, and what they get out of it. Educate your customer so they feel comfortable working with you & why that is a good price and why they should work with you and not your competitor

This is so wrong. Your product (or service) price should always reflect its quality.

So if I want to make 70k but only 5 projects a year, I have to charge each client at least 14k? Yeah no that doesn’t even work either 😂

I went with what I felt is right then 2x it. Joke. Put in the effort required and the man days needed to carry out the work and add in a bit of extra in the event that clients as for “small discount” which I usually don’t give

Obviously, becoming an expert at anything will require a minimum of 10 years. Put in the time if you want to make the dime, son.

I respectfully disagree. How can you know how many projects you can realistically handle when one day you are building a full brand identity, and another day you are working on a website for a client who is never satisfied? What you thought would be one week of work can quickly turn into a full month. The worst part is hiring someone else to do the job for you. Clients hire you because they have seen your work. Or maybe they have actually seen the work of the person you hired from the beginning, who is probably sharing the same project on their own page too… so I’m sorry, if you have a company now everyone will know what’s going on here…

I just declined an offer for a rebranding because it was too low I went with the higher cost and omg I love it so far! I can't wait to begin using the deliverables! I didn't even think this was part of my process to make up my mind but it really is! 😳
