@brendanpang: FAN TUAN (TAIWANESE STICKY RICE ROLLS) 🇹🇼🌯✨ Chewy sticky rice wrapped around crispy youtiao, savoury pickles, fluffy egg and pork floss. One of my favourite Taiwanese breakfast treats! Makes 2 - 1 ½ cups glutinous (sticky) rice - Vegetable oil, for cooking - 2 cloves garlic, minced - ½ tsp chilli flakes - ⅓ cup preserved mustard greens (or other pickled vegetables), chopped - 2 tsp soy sauce - 3 eggs, whisked - 2 - 3 spring onions, thinly sliced - 2 - 3 tbsp doubanjiang or your favourite chilli sauce - 1 youtiao (Chinese doughnut), cut in half - ⅓ cup pork floss Rinse the rice until the water runs mostly clear, then soak for at least 6 hours or overnight. Drain the rice and transfer to a steamer lined with a damp tea towel or cheesecloth. Cover and steam for 45 minutes, or until tender. Alternatively, cook in a rice cooker. Meanwhile, heat 1 - 2 tbsp oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Add the garlic and chilli flakes and cook until fragrant and lightly golden. Add the preserved mustard greens and cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring regularly, until they look slightly dry. Stir through the soy sauce and cook for another minute. Set aside. Heat another 1 - 2 tbsp oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Pour in the eggs and sprinkle over the spring onions while the eggs are still setting. Cook until golden on both sides, then remove from the pan. To assemble, place a tea towel on a chopping board and lay a large sheet of plastic wrap over the top. Spread half the sticky rice into a rectangle. Spread with half the doubanjiang or chilli sauce. Top with half the omelette, half the youtiao, half the pickled vegetables and half the pork floss. Using the plastic wrap to help you, roll the fan tuan into a tight log, squeezing gently as you roll, similar to making a sushi roll. Twist the ends of the plastic wrap to help hold its shape. Repeat with the remaining ingredients. Slice in half and enjoy warm. #fantuan #taiwanesefood #taiwanesebreakfast #stickyrice #taiwan@

ur mom :
It’s crazy that it’s never known to be Taiwanese before because it’s Shanghainese breakfast food, and one guy bought one from this Taiwanese restaurant which carries fantuan on their menu and thought it’s Taiwanese then everybody else started calling it Taiwanese…… It’s like buying French fries from a Chinese restaurant and start to call them Chinese fries 💀
