I was once told that intrusive thoughts are your brains odd way of doing a risk assessment, it’s highlighting to you in graphic detail what should not happen and that really helped me

i have mild/minor POCD and i absolutely hate it, but im also very open and communtative that they are INTRUSIVE thoughts that i do NOT agree with and am disgusted by and instantly disappove of aswell as would never act upon them as they dont reflectmy actualbeliefsor actions. it took a lot for me to come to terms with that fact that they are intrusive and im not a terrible person, but i was able to do it by communicating with other people with OCD who understand how terrifying it is!! it genuinely sucks but honestly has decreased with time, accepting they arent who i am, and speaking with people who live with similar issues(altho the fear of the intrusion are still there!)

I’ve been on mandatory medical leave for over 1year and half and was suspended from girlguiding because of this. And due to professionals not understanding. All I wanted was some help.

you're so brave to do this. ocd is such a misunderstood illness and people judge before they listen if you try to tell them what you're experiencing! its so important to support others dealing with this, its a terrible place to be, being so convinced you are something awful that you are not. making you feel so lonely and undeserving of love. we need to make this common knowledge so that the generations after us don't have to struggle with being confused about what's going on

Well done 🥰 as a psychologist this is amazing to see, so people do not seek support for this due to fears of judgement and punishment
