The problem is that in the real world, mutation is necessary. How do you increment a timer without mutation? How do you process a queue of data when you can’t mutate the queue? Functional programming is a nice idea on paper, but it doesn’t just automatically solve all of the world’s problems.

He have no idea what he talks about. C is as safe as Processor’s architecture is safe. C is an abstraction allowing anything. If you developed bad code it’s not C fault.

The big question, is haskell is fast as C. C is very low level, thats why its fast. Everything you put in between from A to B makes it slower.

its easy to say “just rewrite everything in Haskell”, it’s much harder to do it and guarantee behavioral equivalence. many things depend on technically broken APIs; should we fix them just for the sake of fixing them and deal with the aftermath?
