@nssastronomy2: The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope (Roman for short) is NASA’s next-generation space telescope, named after astronomer Nancy Grace Roman, who is often called the “Mother of Hubble.” Roman uses a 2.4-meter primary mirror, the same size as Hubble’s, but has a field of view about 100 times larger, allowing it to survey the sky thousands of times faster. Its main mission is to study dark energy, dark matter, the formation and evolution of galaxies, and to discover and catalog tens of thousands of exoplanets in the Milky Way. The telescope is equipped with two primary instruments: the Wide Field Instrument, which captures high-resolution images over large areas of the sky, and the Coronagraph Instrument, which blocks starlight to enable direct observations of exoplanets. Roman is expected to operate for at least five years at the Sun–Earth L2 Lagrange point, approximately 1.5 million kilometers from Earth.
