@managers.mentor: what does a good no-call no-show policy actually look like? Here it is. 👇 It starts with one non-negotiable: 📞 A required call. Not a text. A text is avoidance. A call is accountability. Just the requirement of making that call stops a significant percentage of avoidable callouts before they happen. Here are the 3 parts every policy needs: 1. The call requirement Before the shift. Direct to their manager. Not a text. Not through a coworker. A call. 2. The return-to-work conversation Every single time. Before they step on the floor. Covers what happened, the impact, the expectation going forward, and a full policy review. Documented. 3. Progressive consequences written down and known First offense → documented warning Second offense → final warning Third offense → we part ways. Enforced identically. Every person. Every time. #learnontiktok
when I'm sick I don't want to call or might not be physically able to

You really expect somebody grieving to have to call and explain to you why they can’t come to work? And then right the second they walk in to have a follow up conversation with essentially a write up?

In my state if someone says they are sick we can’t do anything to them no matter how or when they call out due to the state sick time act

I have a no call no show policy means you quit. they have to call the store 3 hours in advance. of course there are exceptions. my issue is having the manager on duty do the write ups and conversations at that time. by the time I come in the next work shift the issue has passed a wide time frame and doesn't hold the same immediate fix.

I love this and actually started it a few months ago! had separate group chats with the two stores I run. call offs went in group and they were able to find coverage but if they didn't still a no show. I got rid of the groups and enforced the calling in to call off and call offs became less and less! will be working on 2&3 moving forward!

This is our policy and if someone text the manager the response is you must call the restaurant and speak with the manager. We document the call out as well as our conversation. We go over our policy at each new hires orientation and have them sign it.

I agree 100% on if you’re calling out you’ve got a call. Yes, texting is too easy.

I tell most to call the restaurant however, if they text to not assume it’s received until I reply. I also have began to

1. Yes, they must always call 2. If they don’t call or show up within 2 hours=NCNS and 12pts and automatic 2nd written or if a new hire within 60 days- auto termination unless they have a valid and verifiable reason

I have a no call no show equals no job policy. I like the idea where they have to call the store and let whoever is running shift that he/she is not coming in. I will add part 2 and 3.
