I think he did really love Jo. They were half of each others souls. Soulmates. The kind of connection you have once in a lifetime. However, I think he knew deep down how much of a free spirit Jo was, and he wanted that in his life. Amy is his love that he needed as a grew and matured. His adult love that would carry him through the mundaneness and joy of life. She discovered him. And I think both of those relationships speak more about the relationship between Jo and Amy than anything else. Amy looked up to Jo. She also admired her free spirit and unique nature. She loved her sister so much that she married her other half. And Jo couldn’t help but be happy for her. Sisterhood is lovely.
