okay, first: I have NO love for Kroger, but... i hate to say it, but it might be a recipe improvement. Maltodextrin is a filler starch (similar to cornstarch), so it seems like they reduced the amount of that starch and moved the spices up, which are gonna be less dense (which explains the lower weight). So you're getting more spices and salt per tsp (I'd argue a good thing).

I remember when I worked retail there were entire positions dedicated to going around daily to do shelf price changes for items. These companies would raise their prices from one day to another to ensure their profits with no warning or announcements. Yet I had to wait once a year for a $0.10 raise.

I did pricing for like four years in a grocery store. It was happening before Covid, but after, it’s gotten exponentially worse. Before they’d just make it smaller. Now they’re making it smaller AND more expensive.

Honestly. It seems like they just reduced the amount of filler starch, reducing the total weight. Which is why they decreased the serving size by a gram, since you are actually getting the same amount of spices and less filler for each serving.
