Yeah soldering wires in automotive applications is generally discouraged as the wires fatigue and crack at the edges of the solder joint. Crimped terminals are the standard for any reputable manufacturer

I've done both of these for years and years. Installing car audio and auto starters. the one thing I try to do differently when i'm splicing into an existing wire is stripped back the insulation a bit more.. Make a hole in the center of the wire.And then pass the new wire through the hole, and then twist it on.

That solder joint is poor. The solder should not take any of the force if the wire is pulled. You should tin both sides, bend both ends in to 270 degree semicircles so they can lock together, and then use enough solder so the outline of the wires is still visible and you can see a dry joint if it’s there. If the wires are then pulled, the solder joint takes little force and doesn’t weaken.
