When pain flares, this is where I come back. I’m sharing this because my body is asking for more support right now, and these are the same tools I share with my students when they need a more gentle way to move and breathe. For as long as I can remember, pain has been part of my experience. But I never shared it openly until recently. These practices are not a magic solution, and they don’t “fix” pain. They are tools I return to when I need to reconnect with myself, create a little more ease, and support my body through difficult moments, so I can continue doing all the incredible things my body is capable of. This supported twist is one of my favourite restorative practices when I need less effort and more support. The bolster allows the body to soften into the twist without forcing or pushing. Instead, it creates an opportunity to slow down, breathe, and let the nervous system settle. You may notice: ✨ your breath becoming deeper ✨ less gripping through the ribs and lower back ✨ a gentle release around the hips and waist ✨ your whole body feeling a little more at ease When we experience pain, we often brace and hold our breath without even realizing it. A supported position like this encourages slow, diaphragmatic breathing and gives your body a chance to experience movement with more safety and less threat. Not because the pose takes pain away. But because your nervous system is always learning, and moments of calm, supported movement can become part of that learning. Stay here for 3–5 minutes on each side. Less effort. More support. More breath. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do for pain isn’t to push harder. It’s to listen, soften, and give ourselves the support we need. #yogapractice #chronicpain #pain #movement #breath
