I think it’s time to address some of the big tourist attractions in Asia. If you want Glastonbury level crowds in 39 degrees cramped onto one beach you should book a trip here. Maya bay was sold to us from the get go and the place is stunning yes, but what’s not shown is the continuous boats flooding in hundreds and hundreds of people to the point where you actually have to queue before reaching the beach. Everyone’s there for the instagram photo & of course I fell into this trap but this seems to be a running theme across SE Asia and I’ve learnt my lesson. It’s also worth noting the entire area is a protected sight so you cannot go in the water, this is not made clear upon booking however they definitely make this clear with a megaphone every 10-15s whilst you’re actually on the beach. I didn’t see this as a bad thing considering this beach would absolutely not look like this if tourists were allowed to swim however if you’re wanting a peaceful uninterrupted read or lie down this is not the place for you. The island itself is stunning but unfortunately it fallen into full tourist trap territory and I really wouldn’t recommend wasting your money.
