WHY DID JESUS HAVE TO DIE ON THE CROSS? THE ANSWER IS GREATER THAN HUMAN UNDERSTANDING. He is God. At any moment, He could have walked away. With one word, He could have caused everyone hurting Him to fall to the ground. But He did not. He willingly accepted the humiliation, the beating, and the cross. Why? Because the price of sin had to be paid by someone. Romans 6:23 says: “For the wages of sin is death.” Every one of us has sinned. Pride. Lies. Hatred. Jealousy. Selfishness. Hidden sin. And the final result of sin is eternal separation from God. But God loves us. He did not want humanity to perish. So He came into this world Himself. Second reason. Hebrews 9:22 says: “Without shedding of blood is no remission.” Sin cannot be removed simply by “being a good person.” And it cannot be washed away through religious acts. A completely holy and sinless person had to pay the price in our place. And Jesus became that spotless Lamb. 1 Peter 2:22 says: “Who did no sin, neither was guile found in His mouth.” So when He went to the cross, it was not because He failed. It was because He willingly chose to take our place. And on the cross, Jesus said: “It is finished.” (John 19:30) Those were not words of defeat. They were words of victory. Because in that moment, He paid a debt we could never repay ourselves. He carried the judgment that belonged to us. And He opened the way to eternal life for everyone willing to trust in Him. The cross was not an accident. And it was not a last-minute plan. It was the greatest act of love in human history. God did not send an angel to save you. He came Himself.
