🤣🤣🤣 My husband and I have saved and worked so hard to retire early. We were supposed to be moving to Greece last month. But I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer Xmas eve last year. I know…I’m going to beat it. But our early retirement plans have changed drastically.

exactly! we only hear about how spending excessively is risky (which is true). but we hardly hear about aggressively saving for a future that is not guaranteed.... is also by definition a risk!

It’s just a balance like anything, there’s people that die of cancer right after retiring and then there’s people that have to live in their car when they’re old because they didn’t save any money. Save something, but make sure you live your life along the way.

Lost my brother to cancer a few years ago - he was 34. I used to have spending anxiety and saved every penny - now I spend most of it on trips I never imagined I’d go on! Spend it!!!

So happy we worked part time in our 40s, enjoyed our children, took the trips, made the memories. Husband fighting Stage 4 cancer at 53…still making memories and trying to enjoy our time in between treatments, but so thankful we didn’t wait to live. ❤️

YES👏🏻. I'm a RN. I've worked Neuro/Trauma ICU, ED, and hospice. I'm saving for retirement and traveling and living now. My longevity, mobility, and partner are not guaranteed for the next 50 years

This is 💯true. My dad passed from pancreatic cancer at age 61. He was in the middle of building a big dream home for my mom and him…Where they’d spend their golden years together. That never came. We finished the house for him. Do the things now while you can!

When I was in my 30’s I thought I would retire in my late 60’s. Now that I am 72 I have no plans to retire. I have an amazing solo medical practice which provides my life with a wonderful sense of meaning and purpose, an important component of my personal longevity program. For my entire 41 years of practice I’ve only worked 4 days a week. Back in 1985 when I was a senior FP resident a physician in private practice at a lunchtime lecture told us soon to be completing residency seniors who were entering private practice to begin by only working 4 days a week. I followed his advice. I now work 3 1/2 days a week and take two 3 week vacations a year, one of which I am on right now, sitting in Copenhagen airport on my way to Norway. So the balance between work and non work is good.
