I heard the cheapest tickets were $1k so Mamdani paid for the cheapest tickets in the city he's Mayor for. Whereas Trump was invited to the game by James Dolan but his travel fees (flight, meals, security detail, lockdown, logistics and so on) were covered by tax dollars.

Just like other positions funded by tax dollars (teachers, officers, firefighters, librarians, etc) once the money is paid for compensation for services rendered, it becomes PERSONAL property. You do not get to further dictate what we spend our money on.
