The problem with her reasoning is this. When China instituted the one child policy there was 980 million people in China. Even if only 900 million of them got married and had one child per couple that still adds 480 million people to the number of people in China assuming that 980 million is still alive or mostly still alive. So you add those numbers up and you come up to 1.4 billion. She’s correct that the one child policy hurt China’s population growth curve, but it’s incorrect to assume that because there was 980 million people then they can only be 480 million now because a lot of those 980 million are still alive

It’s so wrong. Two people having two kids does not only replace them. If we died immediately after having kids then yes but we don’t. We live close to 100 years. If you divide it in to 20 years generational sections if two people have two kids at 20 years old those two kids could each have two by the time they are 20. Now the first parents are 40 and there are now 6 humans existing from that line. This continues in 20 years intervals until the original parents dies at say 80. Now some of those kids may have more than two kids. By the time the first two die with the expanding and multiplying of all of the offspring there could be 40 or more individuals living or even more. My grandparents had 11 kids so they replaced themselves almost 6x. Before they died the family was massive and today it’s literally in the hundreds. This is how it works. What this video is trying to portray is just plain false. It’s simple math guys

I’m no numbers man but surly people realise population growth is mostly due to life expectancy and age of reproduction. If you have 5 generations alive at one time that’s a whole lot more people then 3 generations alive
