You can call me an ahole if you want, but after my ex and I split and she moved away granting me sole custody, my daughter (almost 3 year old daughter then) was my priority. I didn't date for a long time, because I didn't not want to put my daughter through anything like this situation. When I finally came across a woman who I thought would be a good fit for us. However, before starting to date here (here is where some will call me an ahole) I told her that my daughter would absolutely be my priority, that she will come first. Not to say we won't have special time where my focus is on the one I'm dating, but if anything came up, my priority is the safety and wellbeing of my daughter. My daughter was 13 or 14 then. The woman was okay with that or so she said. The two got along great. Hell much of the time they teamed up against me. 😂 Unfortunately that relationship only lasted a bit over a year. In hindsight though and speaking with my daughter later, I could see now the jealousy my ex had, but good thing is she took it out on my and not my daughter. My daughter is almost 30 now, married, with a son and another on the way and with a great career. While I'm not a perfect dad, it seems I protected her enough for her to find her path.

My 17 year old no longer wants contact with his dad. I know he tells everyone im the bad guy il happily be the bad guy to ensure my kids happiness

I let my daughter find out about her dad on her own. never once said bad things. she hasn't seen him in a year and a half.

A Bar or Bat Mitzvah takes SO MUCH preparation on the kid's end that the choice to walk away isn't small. The fact he (&Mom) are standing their ground shows he is 100% read for adulthood.

at ANY congregation, the act of Aliyah, or being called to the Torah qualifies as a Bar Mitzvah. Depending on the congregation, adding in grandparents or friends to make up the roster of Aliyot can easily be done. the prayers for a Haftorah are the same so maybe read it in English after the 1st few lines in Hebrew. Mom can pay for a beautiful luncheon, catered at the temple after the service!

My dad allowed his 2nd wife to treat me similarly, only her favorite attack was to call ma a wh***. When I told him how she spoke to me he said “well she is a Christian and that is a biblical word so she has every right to use it as she see fit.” He doesn’t understand why he has no relationship with his adult children. He thinks our mom turned us against him.
