@crimehouse247: A 22-year-old Penn State senior was shot and killed just steps from his family home in South Philadelphia after confronting men who allegedly stole his phone. Police say Billy Schmidt was walking home early Saturday morning when he approached two individuals he believed had taken his phone during a previous encounter. Investigators say the confrontation quickly escalated on the 1900 block of Durfor Street, where one of the suspects allegedly pulled a gun and opened fire. Schmidt was struck in the chest and rushed to hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Surveillance footage is reportedly being reviewed as detectives work to identify the suspects, who fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
