I walk mine at night during the hot months to prevent this.

My frenchie loves to sunbathe. And we live in TX. All summer long, I time his outdoor breaks and max them out at 5 minutes. That said, it’s because we had a great vet when he was a puppy and she gave us great information ❤️❤️

Thankfully my dog hates going out for long periods of time, she prefers her nice comfortable couch in the air conditioning

Is it true that you’re not supposed to shave double coated dogs because the undercoat helps cool them in summer? I have 2 Great Pyrenees and once they blow their coats in spring they seem to be fi e all summer. I live in Texas where it gets HOT, and we have a dog door that they come in and out of at will.

Yeah, are dogs love outside when it's super hot but we still set a ten minute timer and make them come in and cool down no matter what

living in a desert if we end up with overheating issues and also if we end up needing to be outside longer than intended we won't often get a towel or something of the sort wet or if we're outside wet a section of the ground with the hose especially if section of the ground if it's in the shade so that the dog has the option to lay in the cool shade or lay on the cool towel if they choose.

We do early morning runs when the heat is high. If it’s too bad, my guy stays home. He doesn’t approve, but I’m not taking chances.

we walk at 5am. My Blue Heeler can tolerate heat, gets water and we stop if she starts slowly down and my Pibble mix doesn't so she only gets 15 minutes

My Chihuahua loves it hot but limit his outdoor time in the heat thankfully I have a 70% shaded yard most of the time he gets so mad when I make him go back inside but I don't let him stay outside for more than 10 minutes when it's roasting outside.

Did you see the studies out of the RVC in the UK that disprove the idea that using ice cold water (vs tepid) will send your pet into shock or cause adverse effects? Super interesting. Essentially UK vet community now recommends any water temp colder than the dogs body temp, along with good air flow. But they say colder water does indeed work faster with no danger of harming your dog. (This is not the case for humans)

Mine stroked out on a 20F day in winter. He got himself so excited over a new toy that he over heated.

Had a scare with my 3 y/o OE bulldog the other day😭 I live in NM, he was out for no more than 10 min and still got a mild heatstroke. Thankfully he’s ok but it was definitely traumatizing!

also in the heat, if you can't walk on a hot surface cause your feet get too hot, same goes for them

One time while working at a veterinary clinic we had an owner bring his bulldog in after leaving him in the car in the middle of summer. In Texas.

I’m glad that you said I’m not to emerge a dog in cold water cause there’s another vet that’s saying that you should and I always thought it was a good idea to have a nice cold towel to put on their bellies and their paws lay down on
