He’s saying how he lives past illusion, he sees reality for what it is. Trees are trees, cities are cities. Nature is a man made concept he doesn’t judge reality in that way. In addition to that another way of looking at this is that nothing is excluded from nature a million years ago everything was nature, was it not nature that produced cities

I think the translation made it confusing for non mandarin speakers since the words he is saying have a much deeper meaning in mandarin. For example “自然“ zi ran doesn’t mean nature in a daoist context it rather means the way of the universe untouched and “妄想” (wang Xiang)is more like an fantasy thought rather then delusion and the word “大自然”( da zi ran ) is not just the meaning nature in English it’s a more philosophical word that describes the entire physical world. I think he is trying to say that the “as it is ness” of the world isn’t what it seems to be and people have a deluded positive idea that everything will work out if you don’t interrupt it but the monk is saying it is a fantasy to think nature will provide for you without intervention. Kinda bad explanation

What the hermit monk says outlines the false duality that people presuppose between nature and human; nature having intrinsically benevolent, and beneficial influence towards the human self. As the monk said and replied to the interviewer’s question, “Well if that’s nature, then go sit on that rock your whole life, and don’t move.”
