It’s been 6 weeks since the birth of your baby. It’s time to go in for your 6 week checkup. The last time you were in the doctors office, you were having your last pregnancy appointment. Everything is different. No more bump. No more struggling to pee in a cup. No more waddling to the exam room. It’s almost like a part of you is missing during this appointment. Your clothes don’t fit the same anymore. They’ll ask all the questions. Do you have depression? Do you have anxiety? Are you sleeping good? Most of us never answer honestly. Why? We aren’t sure. There’s nothing wrong with answering honestly to any of those questions. But we never do. They’ll check to see if you want birth control. It’s been asked many times since birthing your baby. Your body is still healing. Still trying to regulate. It can take years for your body to go back to “normal”. So why rush it. Then the appointment is over. The last appointment to sum up your pregnancy and postpartum. You won’t get another postpartum appointment after your 6 week checkup. Even though your body is still healing. You’re expected to go right back to work. You were able to have a full 6 weeks to heal if you were lucky. Some get less time than that. Give yourself some grace during this time. You’re still healing. It took 9 months to grow your baby. It took time and energy to birth your baby. 6 weeks isn’t enough time to heal. While this appointment may be hard, it’s okay to have all the emotions. It’s okay to ask all the questions. It’s okay to advocate for yourself. This is your postpartum experience. #postpartum #postpartumjourney #6weekcheckup #6weeks #postpartumbody
