There’s a pastry shop just 1 block away from me. I regularly went every other weekend for 3 straight years then one day I stopped. I finally went back last week after a year and a half and the whole staff came up and hugged me. The manager said “i would see you walking… you were there but YOU weren’t there. I broke up with my fiancé after 13 years. The day I moved out I needed some time outside alone. I brought a hotdog and hadn’t enough cash for anything else. The guy looked at me and asked me if I wanted some mayonnaise on my fries. I said that I only ordered a hot dog and he smiled at me and said that sometimes fries with mayonnaise can help with everything you are struggling with. 🥹

My Dad noticed. He was never one to see my pain until it was obvious. He lives 9 hours away, and heard it in my voice after not talking for a bit. First words were: "You ok, Bubba?" He hadn't called be that nickname since I was a kid, and suddenly I was sobbing, telling him of the fight that nearly destroyed my longest running relationship, on the fringes at that point (now doing much better).
