@techserks: If you use Claude Code, MCP is how you go from "it suggests" to "it does." Here's the plain-English version What it is: MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that connects Claude Code to your actual tools, data and APIs. Instead of copy-pasting from another tab, Claude reads and acts on those systems directly. Each connection is an "MCP server" — and you only connect the ones you trust. What it unlocks: • "Build the feature in JIRA ENG-4521 and open a PR" • Query your database in plain English • Check error monitoring — "top errors in the last 24h?" • Pull in Figma designs posted in Slack • Draft emails, file tickets — the busywork The most common ones in Claude Code: • GitHub — PRs, issues, code review • Sentry — production errors + stack traces • PostgreSQL / Supabase — query your database • Playwright — drive a browser, run UI tests • Context7 — up-to-date library docs • Notion · Slack · Linear — docs, chat, issues How to add one (most are remote, over HTTP): claude mcp add --transport http github https://api.githubcopilot.com/mcp Then /mcp to sign in, claude mcp list to check. Scope it local (you), project (team) or user (all projects). The honest bit: MCP is powerful — treat it like handing a tool real access. Only connect servers you trust, watch for prompt-injection risk on anything that fetches web content, and keep your tokens private (never in version control). Save this for when you set yours up. Which one would you connect first? Want Claude wired into your stack safely? That's what we do. Follow @techserks for honest, no-hype AI for small business.
