I work for Guide Dogs of America. Those beautiful dogs are simply breathtaking and beautiful. Paul is right they are the cost of a luxury car but the independence they provide is pricless.

I am so incredibly happy that guide dogs are covered for individuals who are blind as the doors it opens independence wise is so huge. I really hope to see this become more available for mobility assistance and medical alert dogs. It is becoming more accessible but still has so much work. My dog whom of which I am so incredibly grateful for and have no regrets for cost close to $30k just for the training and the security he has brought me with my diabetes management is something I can’t even imagine living without again. He has opened so many doors for me in the short time I’ve had him but I know very well that this is not feasible for the majority of people with disabilities thus living with extra burden, limitations, etc. My pup on to of the initial charge for training, I’m having to pay for food, vet bills, travel health certificates, the list goes on. More light needs to be put around these organizations covering dogs for people and those who don’t. Service dogs open so many doors for people!
