Makeup in the 1960s and 1970s really channeled the 1920s and 1930s. The whole Mod movement had that structural, geometric Art Deco vibe, and it definitely felt like the spirit of those old flappers and Bright Young Things was back. You can see it in the clothes, too; the boxy A line silhouettes of the 1960s were such a throwback to the drop waists of the 1920s. Both eras were all about pushing boundaries with hemlines, moving from the ankle grazing skirts of the past up to those daring 1960s mid thigh lengths. Films like Cabaret from 1972 and Funny Girl from 1968 really kicked off that nostalgia, followed by hits like Bonnie and Clyde and Thoroughly Modern Millie in 1967, and The Boy Friend in 1971. They were like visual blueprints for the look. Then you had the hagsploitation wave, like 1962's Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, bringing classic icons back to the screen. Even Twiggy was channeling the 1930s with those bold eyes and that cropped hair. Politically, the 1960s felt like a mirror to those earlier times, with women gaining more independence and living through their own sexual revolution. It wasn't just a trend; it was a nod to a generation that was finally redefining its place in the world, just like they had decades before.♥️
