@jsorsby: These were a few Arkansas State Parks and historic sites I got to visit during my Arkansas trip last week: 📍Petit Jean State Park - Morrilton, AR: This was the first Arkansas State Park opening in 1923, and it remains one of the most popular. The park covers almost 3,500 acres in the Petit Jean Mountains with 20 miles of trails. Includes many notable features like Cedar Falls waterfall, The Rock House Cave, Mather Lodge and the old Pioneer Cabin from 1845. 📍Historic Washington State Park - Washington, AR: A living history 1824 townsite that contains the largest collection of 1800’s era buildings in the state. It includes Arkansas’ largest magnolia tree, oldest post office, the blacksmith shop where the first Bowie Knife was made, and a pine tree grown from a seed that was taken to outer space. The Jailhouse Bed & Breakfast was a unique stay inside the refurbished old jail. 📍Lake Ouachita State Park - Mountain Pine, AR: Home to Arkansas’ largest lake and one of the cleanest and clearest in the country. It’s surrounded by the Ouachita National Forest and also home to a historic mineral springs that was once a health resort. 📍Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site - Little Rock, AR: This is where the Little Rock Nine were at the center of one of the country’s most famous desegregation conflicts in the 1950’s. They were nine black students that enrolled in the all-white high school. Today, Little Rock Central High is the only operating public high school in the United States that is also a National Historic Site. #TheNaturalState #ARStateParks

Following for this. Incredible. Up until 1820 or so the Ouachita mountains were considered part of the Ozarks, only separated by the Arkansas River valley. I’m doing an Ozarks documentary and have told myself to stick to the modern Ozarks, but I might have to get down to Petit Jean at least.

This my favorite park in Arkansas. I also enjoyed Buffalo National River’s trail and Giant City State Park in Illinois.
