@adriannelentine: For years, I assumed she was just tired. And maybe sometimes she is. But Alzheimer’s has taught me that there are so many things happening beneath the surface that we can’t see. The more I learn, the more I realize how hard her brain is working every single day just to navigate a world that no longer makes sense the way it once did. Sometimes what looks like disengagement may actually be mental exhaustion. And sometimes the kindest thing we can do is simply sit beside them and let them rest. 💕 Have you noticed this with your loved one? Let me know in the comments. And follow for more Alzheimer’s and caregiving content. 💜

I thought there only 3 stages to Alzheimer’s.. my mom has severe Alzheimer’s and I’m only 17.. she got diagnosed in 2017 the year that I got adopted.

My Mom did not have Alzheimer’s and the last year of her life she did this all the time. I don’t disagree with your reasoning, but I think it’s more age related than Alzheimer’s related. (my mom was 99 when she started doing this and sharp as a tack)

Related but not: After my mom had a stroke, she slept a lot. Basically all the time. Doctors said if she wants to, let her. (Which is what I had been doing.) One day I asked her why she slept so much more now. With her aphasia, she still clearly said, “When I’m sleeping, I don’t know anything is wrong.” 😩 Her life was changed severely, and she hated every minute of it. I think she was also scared. She had always been a tough, strong woman in so many ways. Then she was a shell of her former self. She passed away 2.5 years after her stroke; I was her sole caregiver. And I was with her when she took her final breath. 🥺

🥰 My mom is so sweet now. She used to be a bit more harsh…. Now I’m experiencing this woman who is so soft and shows sadness when we leave.

My mom went through the same thing, eventually she stopped talking altogether. It's a difficult road, be strong for her and yourself.

The neurologist told us to let them sleep, they need to rest. We do meals and meds and showers when awake, whenever that may be.

5 years of dementia with my mom. She is finally at peace after experiencing countless phases. It’s hard on everyone. Especially them.

I do this sometimes having bilateral SCDS. When I worked, I had to clock out and nap and clock back in later to makeup my hours. Went to urgent care with a migraine and I could not open my eyes.. not bc of sensitivity.. it was just a lot of work to open my eyes and talk. The brain is such a mystery to me. Hugs for your momma
