businesses do not invest in their employees anymore. it’s the same reason why the only real way to get raises is to switch jobs, they do not reward you for your loyalty.

bosses at the top started hiring friends and family instead of competent people. this is compounded into people leaving and not being replaced so one person ends up carrying the work of 3 jobs and is just to valueable in their current role.

I think part of it is that people aren’t retiring quick enough. Everyone said “work hard while you can and have little responsibility” so people did, got promoted quickly, and now a lot of senior roles are filled with people who aren’t retiring for another 20 years, and executives hardly ever come promotions

Better to job hop from personal experience and seeing others experience. If you work your way up at a company and are there years proving yourself… someone else with come in off the street who are hired for the same level or same job title & will still be paid far more than you after you worked there years.

I used to be an aquatic specialist at petco for 16 an hour, few years later after gaining more experience and adding more qualifications, im a senior aquatic specialist for 17 an hour. more responsibilities for almost nothing
