@emmaskies: Someone asked me this and I had a full internal crash out 😭 Books mentioned: • The Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem • The Poet Empress by Shen Tao • Lucky Day by Chuck Tingle • Platform Decay/The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells • The Wicked Bargain by Gabe Cole Novoa #BookTok #booktoker #fantasybooks #scifibooks #romancebooks
Not sure if this will help! I stopped reading other people’s favourite books. I just went to the library and randomly pick up obscure titles by authors I know won’t fail me. Went in blind and no expectation and that kinda helped me out of my slump! :)

I’ve also been a huge re-reader this year - no new or “new to me books” are doing it for me. Don’t know what this issue is but thankful for a LONGGGGG list of books I already love that I’m happy to reread🤍

I think I’ve only read 4 books this year after almost 50 last year, my best year ever. Glad to know I’m not the only one struggling 😕

The top two that come to mind are The Everlasting and This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me. I recently finished This Kingdom and it is the first book in a very very long time that I can not stop thinking about. Which did kind of throw me into an existential suck because I'm desperately wanting to read something as good, but know that nothing will compare while I'm in my current obsession with it. I'm really just wanting to be able to experience it for the first time again 😅

I had the same issue after my Dad passed a few years ago. I couldn’t focus on any book, it took me a while to find my groove and as a mood reader it was really difficult. I really enjoyed The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow as well as the How to Survive Camping series by Bonnie Quinn 💕

I just finished the Night Circus and I really like that. I read the Spellshop and enjoyed that one too but the rest I've read have been meh, good but not great.

Halfway through There is no Antimemetics Division rn and hope to finish soon. I like it a lot, and hopefully it ends strong for me. I do have a bad habit of starting books and not finishing em..

Suffered a reading slump and have only read 20 books so far this year, but the best ones have been The Poet Empress, The Hunger of the Gods, Atmosphere, Piranesi, and a re-read of Project Hail Mary.

Dawn Ranbunomelody :
Poet Empress (also because of the book club). Empire Called Memory and The Hollow Places. I had to think way too long about what I read AND I also have like 5 books started at the same time. Perhaps the only thing I'm missing is chicken nuggets to complete the existential crisis vibes.

Project Hail Mary. That’s all. I also reread Priory of the Orange Tree for the third time and loved it more than anything else I’ve read all year. I also feel like everything I pick up is garbage somehow.
