for those who are confused about lucy opening the gate of past: Lucy’s future self opened the gate from the past (during grand magic games) coz in the future dragons conquered the world and no one will survive even natsu. she opened the gate to change the future.

Okay, for anyone whose confused. Anna opened the gate TO the future. Layla opened the gate TO the present. Future future Lucy opened the gate TO the past. Lucy from the future when the dragons destroyed the world, opened the eclipse gate to the past (to the magic games arc). And that's how future Rogue came back to trick Hisui to opening the gate to let dragons cross.
