@narcfamilies: Hi, it's Juliana! We get into these situations with narcissistic parents where our discomfort isn't a secret. We're saying stop. Trying to get away. Crying. Screaming. Shaking. They have all the information they need to know exactly how we feel. But they don't stop. They keep tickling, teasing, roughhousing, or whatever it is that they're doing. And this is because narcissistic parents care more about their own experience than ours. Said differently, "I'm having fun" matters way more to them than "my child is upset." And when this happens over and over again, you learn that your feelings are irrelevant. It's like they plant a voice in your head that says: "It doesn't matter if you're upset, angry, scared, hurting, embarrassed, overwhelmed, or uncomfortable, they still get to do what they want." But the thing is, "they" isn't always your narcissistic parent. This voice can show up with friends, partners, coworkers, neighbors, anyone you have a relationship with. Because you've been taught that your feelings aren't a good enough reason to say no or ask someone to stop.
