@coachmontessori: In Montessori, we don’t decide whether a child’s feelings are valid based on whether we agree with them. To us, it may be “just a toy.” To the child, it may be their favourite toy. Their comfort toy. The toy they play with every day. The toy they received from someone they love. The goal isn’t to convince them that they shouldn’t be upset. The goal is to help them through the emotion. Because children don’t need us to judge their feelings. They need us to understand them. Feeling understood doesn’t make emotions bigger.
