It’s July 3rd… which honestly feels crazy to say. We’re already halfway through the year 🤯 And it’s Fail Friday 🙃 Today I’m sharing my 3 favorite “fails” from this past season, plus a little backstory on how Fail Friday even started. Anyone who knows my daughter and I knows we are completely unserious most of the time… and yes, it probably gets us in trouble more than it should 😂 But here’s the thing, there’s a reason behind it. I never want her (or any of the gymnasts we’ve met along the way) to take every fall or “fail” so seriously. In the moment, especially at a meet, it stings. It’s frustrating. It can even bring tears (and yes, Adley has had those moments too… many have). But one mistake doesn’t define you as an athlete. And it definitely shouldn’t control the rest of your meet. I’ve coached, I’ve watched from the office, I’ve sat on the sidelines… and I can promise you this: beating yourself up over what could have been won’t change the score once it’s flashed. What will help? Learning from it. Moving forward. And honestly… being able to laugh at yourself a little. My perspective isn’t for everyone, but after years of working with kids, preteens, young athletes, and raising one of my own, I’ve learned this: A sense of humor will take you a lot further than believing you’re a failure. That’s what Fail Friday is all about. #FailFriday #GymnastMindset #TrustTheProcess #KeepGoing #LearnAndGrow @Adley Sowders
