There are certain chapters of one’s life that refuse to become history. They linger in the corners of old photographs, in familiar streets, in the peculiar ache of a song heard at precisely the wrong hour. I suppose Pearl is my way of keeping such things alive. 🐚 Two years ago, I released a collection of songs that, in many ways, changed the course of my life. I was young, terribly sentimental, and perhaps a little too willing to let the universe have its way with me. I wrote about things I could scarcely understand at the time, and people whose significance I would only come to appreciate much later. It is rather extraordinary what a song can preserve. A voice, a season, the particular color of a September evening, the ghost of someone who once occupied an entire world. We spend so much of our lives trying to move forward, yet I find myself increasingly grateful for the things that remind me where I have been. I often wonder what becomes of the things we create in the midst of our becoming. Do they grow alongside us? Do they remain precisely as they were, waiting patiently for us to return? Or do they belong, in some small way, to everyone who has ever found themselves reflected in them? Whatever the answer may be, I am grateful that these songs exist beyond the confines of my own memory. That somewhere, someone might stumble upon them and discover a feeling they thought belonged to them alone. If you have ever listened to Pearl, shared it with a friend, found a little piece of yourself in its verses, or simply kept it company on a lonely evening, I thank you. You have become part of its history, and that is no small thing. Perhaps we are all just little wanderers, collecting pieces of one another as we make our way through this peculiar existence. Here’s to the things that made us, the things that haunt us, and the things that have yet to find their way home. Two years of Pearl. And perhaps, in another life, another lifetime, or another turn of the wheel, I’ll meet you there again. With love, LJ Dallas 🕯️ Listen to Pearl wherever you find your music. #irishmusic #Pearl #FolkCountry #SingerSongwriter #Samhain
