@nswhealth: It’s RSV Awareness Week! Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common illness that can affect anyone. It is spread through the air when an infectious person coughs, talks, or sneezes. While it is mild for most people, it can cause serious illness in babies, older adults, and people with a weakened immune system. In NSW, thousands of babies and older adults are hospitalised with RSV each year. The disease is most common in autumn and winter so now is a good time to get vaccinated. The vaccine is free for: - pregnant women from 28 weeks gestation - older adults aged 75 and over - Aboriginal people aged 60 and over. Speak to your doctor, pharmacist or Aboriginal Medical Service to learn more. Visit our website for more information: www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/factsheets/Pages/respiratory-syncytial-virus.aspx
