Why is it used? Improves matrix adaptation at the gingival margin. Reduces the risk of gingival overhangs. Helps create a tighter proximal contact. Prevents composite from leaking beneath the matrix. Steps Place the sectional matrix band around the tooth. Insert a wooden or plastic wedge as usual. If there is still a gap, gently pack a small piece of PTFE (Teflon) tape between the matrix and the adjacent tooth or cervical area using a plugger. Ensure the matrix is tightly adapted to the gingival margin. Restore the cavity with composite. Remove the PTFE tape, wedge, and matrix after curing, then check the contact and margins.
