@airportstrategy: After the luggage tag switching scheme videos hit 2 million views the single most asked question in my comments was the same thing every time. What tracker should I get and how do I actually set it up โ๏ธ๐ This is the exact step by step setup I now do before every single international flight with a checked bag ๐ โโโโโโโโโโโโ ๐ฆ 1. WHICH TRACKER TO GET DEPENDING ON YOUR PHONE โข If you have an iPhone get an Apple AirTag. It runs on the entire Apple Find My network which means hundreds of millions of Apple devices around the world are passively helping locate your bag โข If you have an Android phone get a Tile Pro or a Samsung SmartTag depending on your device. Both have large independent networks and work without needing an iPhone โข A four pack of AirTags costs around 99 dollars US which works out to about 25 dollars per bag and is the single best travel investment most frequent flyers make once โโโโโโโโโโโโ ๐ 2. CHECK THE BATTERY BEFORE EVERY SINGLE TRIP โข AirTags run on a standard CR2032 coin battery that lasts approximately one year under normal use โข Open the Find My app before you pack and check the battery status on your AirTag. If it shows low replace it before you leave not at the airport โข A dead tracker inside your bag gives you zero protection and zero location data if something goes wrong in transit โโโโโโโโโโโโ ๐ฑ 3. NAME YOUR AIRTAG AND ENABLE NOTIFICATIONS BEFORE YOU FLY โข Open Find My, tap the Items tab, select your AirTag and rename it to the specific bag it is going into so you can identify it instantly โข Turn on notifications so your phone alerts you if your bag is separated from you for an extended period of time โข This is the step most people skip entirely and it is the one that gives you real time awareness the moment something changes with your bag location โโโโโโโโโโโโ ๐ 4. WHERE TO PLACE THE AIRTAG INSIDE YOUR BAG โข Place the AirTag inside a sock, wrap it in a piece of clothing, or put it inside an interior zip pocket so it is not immediately visible if someone opens the bag โข Do not place it in an exterior pocket or anywhere it can be easily found and removed โข The goal is for the tracker to travel with the physical bag undetected so that location data remains accurate from check in to baggage claim โโโโโโโโโโโโ ๐ธ 5. SCREENSHOT YOUR BAG LOCATION BEFORE HANDING IT OVER โข Open Find My and screenshot the map showing your AirTag location at the airport before your bag goes onto the belt โข This creates a timestamped record proving your tracker was active and inside your bag from the moment it left your possession โข If your tag gets switched that screenshot becomes the starting point of a location trail that proves two different bags traveled two different routes โโโโโโโโโโโโ ๐ 6. HOW TO MONITOR YOUR BAG DURING AN INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT โข AirTags update their location whenever they come within range of any Apple device on the Find My network โข During a flight your bag will show its last known location at the departure airport and update once it reaches the destination and comes near other devices โข If your bag lands in a completely different city than you do that location split is your first and most important piece of evidence โโโโโโโโโโโโ ๐จ 7. WHAT TO DO IF YOUR AIRTAG SHOWS YOUR BAG IN THE WRONG PLACE โข Do not leave the baggage claim area. Find a baggage services agent immediately and show them the live location on your phone โข Screenshot every location update your AirTag sends and timestamp all of it before you speak to anyone โข This real time location data combined with your check in photo and baggage receipt number creates a complete evidence package that no airport system can replicate on its own โโโโโโโโโโโโ This is part 4 of the luggage tag switching series. If you have not seen parts 1, 2, and 3 they are all on my profile and you need all four before your next international flight โ๏ธ๐ Save this and send it to everyone you are traveling with ๐งณ๐ #airporttips #traveltok #travelsafety #travel #creatorsearchinsights
AirTag is no help when your baggage tag is switched and put on a different bag. The best thing to do is to make a video of your luggage and make sure to also show your face in the video at the airport after they have put tags on at the check-in.

Saved us on a trip to Norway a couple of years ago. Bag never left Miami. Long story short, I called Swissair โairfreight,โ told them where it was, and within hours, the lost bag was on its way to Tromso Norway. Without the AirTag, that would not have happened.

Has anyone actually started putting an AirTag in their checked bag after this series because the comment that started this whole video was someone asking exactly where to buy one and I want to know if people are actually making the switch

After a trip from Philadelphia/London/Marrakech, my bag fly Phil/Paris/Marrakech. Delighted to find my bag 24 hours later and to able to plan time at a favorite restaurant in the departure lounge. I didnโt know it was there until the AirPod showed the surrounding shops. Double win!

is it the same process with Samsung tags? I know may sound like a stupid question. I have never used one so trying to understand how it will work if it ends up somewhere else on the app before I purchase one.really useful information

Itโs a shame that customers have to go through all of this when the employees are the ones that should be filmed and monitored not us doing all that.

Take photo of your luggage in front of check in counter. Locked carry suitcase place opposite your seat carriage. so you can see who is open the carriage.

used a cheap one in both bags for last 5 years on a weekly basis after an Airline lost my bag, found it then I got zero response from them, guess it went to auction
so there's no guarantee yiu will get it back anyway
another thing i do is to put last weeks baggage label inside the case so when its opened they have my details , they can just scan the tag and find who owns it that way
