My professor warned us about this in uni and said internships would be the new “entry level” but the crazy thing is now it’s even hard to get an internship

It’s the simple fact that none of these companies wanted to spend the money and resources to train someone. They just want to plop someone into the role and move on. On top of that fact that they wanted to pay people less for doing more.

Because we are competing with the people who are getting laid off and are already experienced :/ there’s not enough jobs for the volume of people searching for one

Because most corporate workplaces are dysfunctional. There’s not enough staff, and the hiring manager is too burned out to have to teach anybody. The vacancy is already a crisis.

went to school for 3 years and the only reason I got the job I have now is because I had reached out personally to multiple companies who didn't even really care about my education but we're interested in my certifications

Entry level jobs got so insanely demanding that us mid level professionals can’t even climb up the ladder because the skills we have are considered junior even after 5 years in the job market. WE’RE ALL FUCKED

The gluttonous job market will require high school students to works as a requirement and college/uni students to already be part of the job market to “proof” they are worthy of a “grownup job” it’s sick…

I've noticed that hiring mid level for junior level prices. I don't want any managerial jobs. every job I find thats interesting is a manager job or a similar role. I keep getting recruiters trying to get me to take a mid level role, too much responsibilities for little pay. no thx

i have to take a break from college because I cannot get accepted into any internships, which is required for me to graduate and I have no more classes left to take. And like, call it a skill issue, sure, but internships really should require absolute minimal skill to be accepted into.

I’ve seen this trend since 2008. To me entry-level is not a thing. I know people in their 30s and 40s who are still working retail management and service jobs. They came out of college with bachelors degrees and masters and they were underemployed for YEARS! Now it’s just worse. We have seniors who can’t afford to retire. high school students who can’t even get a nice fast food job, and then folks like me, trying to pivot careers and get a corporate role but only get interview offers for retail management roles. We’re told you need a bachelors degree, you need this you need that, then we get it and we’re told you don’t have enough experience. A number of people I know ended up just going back to trade school and they’re doing well. Post grad now cant even get a good paid internship. A lot of us feel stuck. In my view it’s always been this way. We’re in jobs that we hate, but we have to survive somehow.

But the thing is who’s fault is that? It’s a cycle. Why not just have integrity and make an entry level job an entry level job

It’s nearly impossible to break into a career now days unless you had years of internship experience in college. There are virtually NO true entry level jobs now. Even internships want past internship experience like what
