While i do agree it would be good i think dispatchers would need higher pay or benefits to stay, otherwise the emotional aspect would be way too much for what it offers

911 dispatcher here! I don’t know how widespread it is but for Alabama we have prepared! We can text and video chat callers! It’s helpful for lost people, bleeding control, etc!

As a 911 operator a version of this does exist already and is rolling out in larger cities. It’s just not FaceTime as you know it.

Law enforcement analyst here - we have a system that asks you to “live link” if we feel it’s necessary to get a live view of what’s going on. Truthfully I’ve never used it.

We do in Denmark! When we call they can send us a link via text, and when you click it. It allows them to see our camera!❤️

everyone hating, but i low key agree. She said "adding FaceTime to 911" which would mean having the OPTION to do it instead of a regular call, if a situation wasn't one that was safe to talk in.

As a firefighter this would be extremely helpful. Especially for wrecks and fires. If dispatch could tell us the extent of damage or if smoke/flames were showing. The average person is not capable of accurately describing situations and it would help us if we had more accurate information so we can be more prepared before we get there

In the Netherlands we can! Through a secure link where you don’t see us but we see you. It can be super helpful but there’s a lot of things to consider, such as the caller’s privacy but also the dispatchers mental wellbeing by seeing all that trauma

The average 911 caller can’t even describe what’s happening calmly, and you expect them to hold the camera steady while they’re panicking? Not to mention the idea of law enforcement having access to our phone cameras is a big no for me

I work as a medical dispatcher in Norway and we have it (one way, luckily, they don’t see us). I love it! Gives us so much more to work with 🙌🏻
