I’ll never understand how “selfish” is somehow a negative word. Yes, I’m selfish. I’m here for one life and I want it to be my life. I want it to be on my terms. I’m 42, successful, full of travel and experiences with so many more to come. Not having a child has been one of the best decisions I could have ever made.

I was my parents emotional regulation tool.. I no longer want children. I already raised some..including my brother.. I want to be free dammit. I get told all the time how much of a natural mother I am.. how good i am with my sisters kods.. I DONT WANT to be a mother. I dont want the responsibility of another person anymore. I don't want to put them b4 myself. I already put so many ppl b4 me. No more. Its my life and my time to be free.

There’s this common misconception that people who do not want to have children, hate them. I’ve found that that isn’t true. Some people choose not to have children because they love children. They love them so much that they do not want to bring one into this world.

my family (and my husband's family) say the same rhetoric to us. sure, we might be good parents, but what if we aren't? we decided not to have kids because we felt like we weren't ready. now I'm approaching 30, have medical issues, and we decided it would never happen. our cat is our baby, and someday we will have a baby dog. lol

having grown up with an alcoholic mother i felt this, i did have kids but thats a story for another day, I get where op is coming from and I hope op has found the happiness she so richly deserves 💖💖

I cannot imagine anything more selfless and giving and kind than this woman’s take on not having children. It is exactly encapsulating of how I feel about it as well. For those of us who suffered some type of emotional abuse at the hands of a parent, and questioned not only whether we were wanted but if we wanted to continue to be here because of it, I say she hit the nail on the head. I wish more people were like this. The part especially about interjecting meaning into one’s own life by having children just really resonated with me and so many other people I know!

As a mother of 3 who was very maternal l now think motherhood isn’t all the be and end all. I was a child career from age 11 and often felt more of a parent than child. Enjoy the life you’ve chosen 🙂
