I was one of the winners of the Going together youth grant established by the Kpop Band Seventeen and UNESCO. The programmes aim was to promote youth mental health and wellbeing and was widely advertised as a successful humanitarian effort. In reality programme participants faced immense difficulties throughout the grant cycle. Youth, primarily from developing countries, have taken up debt to implement their projects and some are still waiting for their payments, half a year after the programme was officially supposed to end. Delayed funding forced grassroots youth projects to incur unexpected personal expenses, take on debt, or delay community milestones just to stay afloat. Additionally, while the programs theme was mental health participants experienced a high pressure environment by UNESCO staff and several participants reported developing anxiety which is certainly not what SEVENTEEN would have wanted! Promises were not met. TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY. JUSTICE FOR US.
