@ancientbenin: Floating Logs for Export, Benin Province, c. late 19th-early 20th century The first timber exported from Nigeria was reportedly cut at Siluko (Isi Uloko), about 44 miles from Benin City, and floated through the waterways to Lagos for shipment abroad. By 1890, British timber merchants had established operations in the Benin Province, attracted by its vast hardwood forests.
