@drdrewprovan: Bone marrow biopsy is needed to help us diagnose some blood diseases. The two parts are: aspirate (liquid sample) and core biopsy so we can see the bone architecture. We donor very best to make it as comfortable as we can with local anaesthetic. #medicine #hematology #bonemarrowbiopsy #bonemarrow #fyp
I had a bone marrow biopsy 5 months ago and the site is still tender, was diagnosed with aplastic anemia.

it's a horrible procedure. Doctors who say it's not that bad have obviously never received it themselves. LA does virtually nothing.

My husband had no problem with the bone marrow biopsy, just sore afterwards. He has had two in two years. The results are the real fear, he has MDS with trisomy 8, SF3B1 and DNMT3A , the second one showed a new mutation of tp53. The retracrit injections don't seem to be raising his hemoglobin levels of 9.0 anymore. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Will the patient be sedated for this test? Goodness gracious, I’d hope so. 😳

I had aml last year and have 6 bone marrow biopsy since , it’s a life saving procedure and a must nevertheless not a nice procedure at all! I don’t find them painful anymore but think that’s because the area is numb now 😂😂😂😂

Why don’t they use like conscious sedation for that like they do for say a colonoscopy?

I had one done... There's reason to dread it, but no reason to want to skip it. It is necessary, very necessary if you happen to need it.

As a myeloma patient, I’ve had half a dozen bone marrow biopsies. Honestly they really are not that bad. The minor procedures team at the Marsden Sutton amazingly make it fun, I’d say I laughed harder than I hurt last time!
