if you were Hailey's comet I would endure decades of darkness for a single night of your return the universe has never apologized for its distances it scatters galaxies across light-years and asks us to call it wonder instead of cruelty yet every seventy-years or so a familiar traveler returns not because it was lost nor it forgot where it belonged but because it's orbit always promised it would I think that's what you are to me not a constant presence but a celestial event the kinda that teaches patience simply by existing people talk about waiting as if it is Inherently tragic as if love is only meaningful when it is immediate accessible always within reach but astronomers spend entire lifetimes preparing for a phenomena they may only witness once they study trajectorys they Calculate orbital periods they dedicate years to the possibility of a single moment beneath the right sky and no one calls them foolish because some arrivals are magnificent enough to justify the years spent looking upwards
