How I feel showmanship doesn’t rank. If it mattered all the operations breeding and selling livestock would advertise their customers winning showmanship and they don’t.

i do agree with cummings, showmanship is all the opinion of the judge, and whats with dont do this in showmanship but in class it helps get the judges attention more?

Showmanship is a very important thing in our house! You can have the absolute best animal but if you have no showmanship skills you won’t be able to get it presented to its fullest and look the best you can possibly get it!

Winning a show will always be better. Team effort to put the animals together. Hours in the barn with all hands on deck. Showmanship is for the ones who want to learn the proper ways of the show ring and list off the things you know about your animal. Winning the whole show shows it’s everybody’s success. Showmanship is and always will be the concillation prize

Showmanship is the most important shows to me it takes the part of who can spend the most money on an animal and puts the focus back on the kids .

Showmanship is the only prize! I don’t care how my daughters calves do but she better bring the heat in showmanship period. Showmanship is the most important to me.

Showmanship is about life skills. Ie: can you present yourself well, present your product, do you have knowledge about your product, interview skills, etc. That is the whole point of 4-H. Winning the cattle show is secondary.

I've experienced in the past that in a pig show with a large number of exhibitiors, a committee would choose a certain number of them to come back for showmanship. They were judged by the shows judge at that point. Initially, do good showman get left out and so-so showman get in? Everyone that wants to participate should be allowed. If the regular judge wants to dismiss them, so be it.

We take great pride in showmanship success…shows that the showman knows how to set the animal up and present them to a judge in the best way possible for that particular animal. It shows respect to the judge sorting that day. The list could go on.

I agree as a judge, showmanship is crucial for our youth. It also levels the playing field. I don’t care if you bought that heifer for $20 or $20,000 I want to see how educated you are as a showman on the industry and how well you present the animal you have.
