@uglytruthofcoparenting: Here’s a high-conflict question that comes up all the time inside my communities. Your child has an extracurricular event. It’s on your ex’s parenting time. It’s three hours away. And your ex tells you about it the day before. Now what? Do you drop everything and go? Do you stay home? Do you risk your child thinking you don’t care? Do you risk your ex telling your child you didn’t care enough to show up? This is where high-conflict parenting gets messy. Because you’re often put into a no-win situation. If you go, your child may not even be allowed to interact with you. You might spend six hours driving and never get more than a wave. If you don’t go, a high-conflict parent may use your absence to create a story. “See? Mom didn’t come.” “See? Dad didn’t care.” And suddenly you’re defending yourself against a narrative you never created. This is why I encourage parents to think ahead. Long before these situations happen, start talking to your children. Help them understand that love is not measured by attendance. Help them understand that sometimes parents have obligations, work, responsibilities, and lives outside of parenting time. Help them understand that not being at every event doesn’t mean you don’t care. Because here’s something many parents need to hear: You do not have to compete with your ex. You do not have to do everything they do. You do not have to prove your love every weekend. Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is create your own traditions, your own connection, and your own special moments during your parenting time. That’s where relationships are built. Not necessarily from sitting six hours in a car to spend 30 seconds watching your child from the bleachers. I’m curious… What would you do? Would you make the trip? Or would you focus on reconnecting during your own parenting time? Comment GROUP in my DMs if you’d like to join other parents having these exact conversations every day. Know better. Do better. #highconflictdivorce #coparentingreality #parentingafterdivorce #extracurriculars #highconflictcoparenting

No, it's his weekend. It's his activities. And that can be explained to your child. Saves a lot of hassle for everyone.

I would contact the coach and ask for me to be added to the email or text messages to get information as soon as it’s possible. And show up for my kid/s. They look for the parent in the stands. And it’s always been me. I’ve never missed a game or practice or assembly etc. and I work full time and have stage 4 cancer. I am not a secretary for the other parent so why should I expect them to be one for me?

If we don’t go they tell the child we don’t care enough to support them or their hobbies. Though we don’t have this issue anymore as the child is now old enough to tell us about all her secret activities she’s signed up for.

My thought is…why are both parents not communicating with the coach / team etc? If 50/50 custody, both parents should make sure to know and it not be the other parent’s responsibility to tell you.

I’d most definitely go if I can..bc THAT parent only told me the day before because he didn’t want me to go. So yes, I’m freaking going.

If it was proper coparenting, and you can, yes. High conflict- no. Take note that you weren’t informed in a proper manner.

my son has sport activity every sunday , i always say to my ex , that our son doesn't need to attend on his weekend and the sport company is aware of our son missing a day on his time. That leave the door for him to decide to take or not and I always give 1 week notice on any other event. I always say its up to you.

I would explain to my child that during his/her dads weekend that his/her dad will be the one going to these activities and on mine I would be taking him/her to that activity.

I’m their mom 100% of the time. Not just when it’s my custody time. I don’t miss a game, an event, an activity. Not knowing their schedule seems disconnected.

I don’t have to talk to my kid, I’m not there for me. He just needs to know I’m there. No need to cause any stress or chaos if they have a game/event, just show that his parents are there to support him. Don’t make it about yourself

The children will always have their Dad's and Bonus Moms face their regardless ❤️! Nothing else could ever replace the smile at hockey games or dance recitals when they search for us in the crowd. Its not about placement for us its about being there ❣️
