I saw a guy on a podcast on here who said something along the lines of, “no one will ever understand you or the world the way you do, because no one has lived your life — even two kids raised in the same home are not treated or experiencing life the same exact way, and therefore there are always gaps in perspectives,” as someone whose fought so hard to be understood for so long to be continually what felt like intentional misunderstandings, it took that to show me that it’s not actually me, or my ability to show my perspective, it’s just that people have a hard time understanding from a different walk of life.

living in society is being conditioned to trust. if we didn't trust we'd all be hermits. its isnt bad to beleive the best in others. it can hurt if other people are bad that has nothing to do with who you are as a person

My sister’s friend taught me how to drive and my aunt took me to my driver’s test and let me use her car. Thank goodness I had someone in life who cared for me.

as a dv survivor, it's even harder to know when you grew up watching your mom be abused and she just forgave and move on.

see I am the opposite. I noticed EVERYTHING so now I'm stuck in the loop of "is this normal behavior, or is this abuse?" over very very simple things like my partner not cleaning. And then I have to remind myself that I am in a super stable supportive relationship and that he wouldn't do these things to harm me. I have to remind myself that not everything or everyone is abusive. it's exhausting :(

Judgment is usually the first reaction to vulnerability or to experiences that are misunderstood. Many are simply unaware of how coercive abuse is, how sneaky abuse is. Many are being abused and don’t even know it. I always said never me when I heard stories growing up. Then it was me. When you realize it, sometimes you are trapped and can’t get out easily. And most abusers never touch.

Start teaching kids in school things like: emotional/verbal/physical/financial abuse? Emotional maturity? Attachment theory and identifying secure attachment? CLEARLY we can’t rely on parents. Sadly.

I grew up in such a toxic abusive environment that I found myself in a cycle of abusive relationships because that’s what I knew and what my nervous system was used to. It took years to break out of that.

My older brother took my dads car when we were younger and because of that if I didn’t do the process of learning how to drive and getting the license on my own my family never bothered to teach me.

I had 3 driving lessons and I couldn’t get my license because i couldn’t pass the state minimum requirements in Switzerland. And then they made fun of me for not having my license yet 🥰 also didn’t get a car because “you don’t need one”.

People are so quick to judge adults without a license without even thinking maybe we where never taught? I didn't get mine until 23. That was after going for the lessons myself and having a supportive partner taking me driving.
