I think of a crazier design using observers and copper bulbs as binary counting system OR dispensers with items inside once they're dispensed entirely, the piston breaks the grown amythest.

We should be able to break and obtain budding amethyst and sus sand/gravel in survival. If they can figure out how to make player placed shriekers not summon wardens they can figure out how to make player placed amethyst not grow and sand not brushable. Let me build with more blocks
