All Ventile is imgregnated with DWR(durable water repellent) . Historically the same chemicals as goretex. Recently, they developed and are using an unspecified PFC-free treatment.

It’s great and very ingenious but it’s coated with DWR and cause many problems both to you and the environment. :(

the jacket is 850 usd. also anything for the rain needs to be longer. 90cm minimum. ideally >110cm.

Love your videos! Ventile is actually spun loosely and woven tightly, and then when it gets wet it swells up, stopping water from moving through it. Like you said, it’s not perfect, and often it will have a water resistant spray applied, to help out in worse weather.

don’t fall for the ventile hype, it will get soaked like a sponge and then the water will pass through

lillillillilli :
Goretex is also not truly 100% waterproof in the sense that if you’re out in heavy-enough rain for long enough, it will get waterlogged and allow water droplets to pass through it.

I like ventile, but its not comparable to modern bonded waterproof fabrics. Its good for a light drizzle.

Could something like hemp or water resistant wool be used to make ventile, hypothetically speaking?
