@henryfudgeofficial: You are not overtaxed. You are taxed on the wrong thing. Britain runs a European-style state on one of the lowest taxes on work in Europe, then fills the gap by taxing “other people”: stamp duty, capital gains, banks, big pensions, inheritance. It looks clean. Nobody you know pays it. But it is never free, it comes back as lower wages and frozen markets, and under every party for a generation the pool of “other people” has been running dry. With a debt crisis now called more likely than not before 2030, the deficit forces a choice: become America, or redesign the tax system. The least damaging tax we have is a tax on land, and the loudest voice making the case is a former City head of tax, not a communist. So ask who it suits to keep land out of it. UK tax explained, land value tax explained, stamp duty, council tax and business rates broken down in full. #tax #lvt #ukeconomy #ukfinance #ukpolitics

Henry, hearing your posts gives me some hope that we, the UK, are not doomed! I just wish this stuff was spoken about by politicians! But they’ll loose votes I guess………your research and stats are great! Can I vote for you?! Haha!

If anything UK is really inefficient at tax take/spending communication Public just don't see a return hence why they hate increased taxes. If public saw more of the tax actually being visible people would be less against it

We sadly need to raise taxes, to be the European style state we want to be, and I think we should start with the most efficient tax there is, the LVT

If business rates are based on the value of the property, how would a land value tax work better than business rates? How are they calculated differently?

I feel the political party would keep the existing taxes and and add the land value tax for good measure. The NHS will remain inefficient. So fed up, we work so hard and for what.

Plus knowing the UK we'd somehow switch to an American style system without increasing wages. So we'd get the worst parts of both systems 😭😅

We should also shut down the franchise fee loopholes and charge tax on items bought in the uk that are stored in the uk so Amazon and Starbucks pay their fair share.

I personally think that British would pay more taxes if we didn't see, constantly, huge contracts going to the same owned businesses and friends that own businesses from our governments. I know it's slightly different but we read reports of 36 million pounds being spent on a bus stop. 60 million spent on a clock tower, even half a million being spent on vapes. the problem isn't exactly tax, we don't trust the governments or councils that spend our money. we are all watching the NHS being sold off with massive contracts that we just don't need yet it's the people that have paid in for 40years that need it the most only to be told they have to pay someone now. it's a disgrace ✌

As a Top 1% income earner in the UK and previously lived in the US, I’m taxed at a lower rate here in the UK. I also don’t mind paying the taxes I have paid since I moved. There’s a thought that the government is spending inefficiently but I also don’t think that because I’m from the Philippines where the corruption and spending inefficiencies are insurmountable. If anything, the public services in the UK has been nothing but amazing to me. My takeaway has always been that the people living here don’t really understand nor appreciate what they have.

I'm one of 'the other people' and seem to get taxed left right and centre on everything at the moment. Perfectly fine paying my share of tax providing the services are good and it's fairly distributed - sadly neither are true at the moment.

The tax money is used to pay middlemen for all public services. Vast majority of the middlemen are American private equity firms. We're the 51st state of America not a European country

There’s also - imho - the element of the state - that we pay out loads to profit running PLCs - rather than it being state owned. It makes our government seem “huge” but the result? Mediocre. Because shareholders need £££.

Tax the rich to me means as a poor person I spend three times what I can afford on my credit card and when my payment is due I am looking for a rich person to pay my debt.
